There are a number of decisions in relation to Girls Representative Cricket that remain outstanding awaiting decisions from Queensland Cricket and Queensland Junior Cricket (QJC). These decisions include whether U13 & U15 Girls State Championships (or similar) will occur at all and whether BEARS Girls will now be able to compete as a stand-alone region at State Championships (a request that has been championed by BEARS) rather than be combined into a City Fever side with Brisbane North.
As we get more clarity on the representative opportunities for this summer updates will be provided.
A number of variations occur with the Girls selection process when compared to the Boys selection process for season 2020/21 that reflect the reduced numbers of Girls and the evolving nature of the Girls-in-cricket game. Please note the following:
This process will be used to select players to attend the BEARS RCP winter program AND then in combination with the BEARS RCP Program the BEARS U13 & U15 sides for 2020/21. Attendance at BEARS RCP Selection Trials is therefore essential for all girls seeking to gain selection into the BEARS (and if necessary City Fever) sides for this summer. The BEARS Girls RCP will then be used (if necessary) to finalise selections.
Players will be ineligible for selection should they fail to attend at least 1 BEARS Girls RCP Trial & at least 50% of the subsequent (5 week) Girls RCP. Girls must be at least 11 (U12 eligible) by age as at 1 September 2020 to attend trials and no older than U15 by age by the same date. Girls are strongly suggested to attend all of BOTH RCP trials AND the RCP to maximise their selection chances.
(Note that U13 & U15 will trial on the same evening at the same venue but as a separate trial from one another).
Dates are as follows:
Venue: Whites Hill Reserve
Intention is to announce the BEARS Girls Squads around the 6th September. This early announcement will enables teams to train and play practice games together AND (if necessary) trial for subsequent selection to the City Fever side should that still be required.
Practice games against other regions are being sourced again impacted by QC decision making at this time. Effort will be made to avoid clashes with Women’s Grade Cricket and the Brisbane South Sunday Girls Heat League (likely dates Sunday 25th October – 6th December).
It is possible that an expanded squad may be selected following RCP and subsequently reduced to 12 prior to representative fixtures.
The final selected 12 players in each age group will be awarded BEARS Caps.
Club fixtures are scheduled to commence on Saturday 10 October 2020 and run for 9 weeks concluding 5 December 2020 (Division 1 finals will be Saturday 5/12/2020 and Sunday 6/12/2020). Given the likely extended season for other winter sports we are still finalising available venues - it is likely fixtures will be scheduled Saturday mornings and afternoons.
Players must be nominated by a BEARS affiliated Junior Club to attending the RCP Trials and to be considered by their club to be playing at an appropriate standard (GHL level 2 or above).
There will be a small cost to attend the Girls RCP in line with all BEARS RCP programs. If you have further questions, please contact your club in the first instance.
